Yes, South African passport holders need a visa to travel Europe. A schengen visa allows you entry to around 27 European countries. You do however have to apply at the country of your entry and or the country where you will be staying the longest. Though we assist you with the process, travellers are required to complete the application independently and submit their biometrics in person. A Schengen visa costs around R2400 and takes up to 15 working days to be issued.

We require all our travellers to purchase travel insurance before the departure date of their booked trip. Travel insurance is necessary to cover unforeseen circumstances such as trip cancellation due to illness, trip interruptions, flight delayed, injuries or sickness while on holiday and stolen or lost luggage.

Travellers can choose a travel insurer of their choice, however we can also assist to facilitate it at a cost. Our fees are as below:

1. R650 for short trips in Africa(6 days or less)
2. R950 for international trips outside of the continent ( 6 days up to 12 days)

Please add this as a travel extra when you make your booking if you want us to facilitate it for you with our suppliers.

If you book it yourself, you will be required to email us your proof of travel insurance, one week before the trip.

Europe is pricey, we would recommend R15k and above for meals, drinks and extra excursions

All prices listed for our group trips are per person sharing, which means you will be paired with another solo traveller of your choice or with a friend. Single occupancy means that you have your own room and there is an additional cost for a private room.

No, our travel package does not include festival tickets. They can be purchased directly online on the Afronation website. We recommend either purchasing a general or golden circle ticket. From our experience, there aren’t many benefits with buying a VIP ticket.

The currency used is the Euro (€). It’s a good idea to exchange some currency before departure, although ATMs are widely available.

Portuguese cuisine is diverse and delicious. Don’t miss traditional dishes like bacalhau (salted cod), pastel de nata (custard tart), and grilled sardines.

While Portuguese is the official language, most people in the tourism industry speak English. Learning basic phrases can help enhance your experience.
